# Sex Therapy

## What is Sex Therapy?

Sex therapy is usually a type of medium to long-term psychotherapy which helps individuals and couples struggling with sexual challenges and feelings. If you're feeling overwhelmed and need help, therapy might be what you need.

The focus of Franktalk therapy is men who are dealing with distress about sexual function issues whether they are caused by physiological or psychological problems. Physiological causes may be surgeries, illnesses, diseases, or even age. Examples of psychological causes can include anxiety/depression, performance anxiety, relationship issues, or sexual confusion or orientation.

Sex therapy is often more than a couple sessions. It is goal oriented (we want to help solve your problems), but it allows us to take time to look at you as a whole person. We can explore your family history, your relationship to sexuality growing up, your relationship history, as well as experiences and traumas. If you are feeling overwhelmed and a bit lost and looking for help to sort out some confusing situations, therapy is likely what you are looking for.

Sex therapy usually includes sex education – but not the kind you learned in middle school! Sex education is a re-wiring and retraining of how we think and approach sex. Most of us learned about sex from teenagers and porn - both sources are completely wrong! Sex education is learning to make intentional choices about how we express our sexuality either alone or with a partner(s). We learn how to create a sexual reality based on who we are - not on a sequence of events we learned from porn.

It's important to remember that therapy needs to have concrete goals. This is far more than just talking about your feelings. Therapy is about finding solutions through creating new approaches and reframing thoughts and feelings.

Get Started

## Four simple steps

Getting started is a short conversation, not a stack of forms.

Step One Get in touch

Send a note through the contact page and tell me briefly what is going on. You do not need to have the words for it yet. I read every message myself.

[Contact FrankTalk Therapy](/contact)

Step Two We find a time

I will come back to you with times that work. Sessions are 50 minutes.

Step Three Paperwork, sent to you privately

Before your first session I will send the client agreement and registration forms to you directly, through a secure system. They are deliberately not on this website, because your date of birth, your address and your history should not travel through a public web page.

Step Four Payment

Payment is collected at the time of booking. Payment may be made via Zelle, Google Pay, or Venmo.

If you are experiencing financial hardship we can add a limited sliding scale. [Contact FrankTalk Therapy](/contact) for more information.
